Gorgeous morning. What a perfect start to the day but to take the ladies out for their walk. Marla and Piper start trotting along only to start some reluctance showing about 1/2 mile in by Piper. Marla and I wanted to go in one direction and Piper was like a dog version of Garmin. I could envision her yelling at us like a bot "WHEN POSSIBLE, MAKE A U TURN!" as she kept going in the opposite direction. After a few back and forths, I give up and head back. Meet John on the back deck. See Momma deer and her babies grazing in the yard. Oh how sweet....a racoon skuttles by. A kingfisher flys overhead....we are at peace and just take it all in then OMG! There is a kerfuffle happening down the yard in a bush. Proud warrior woodle Marla busts out of the bush with a dead raccoon in her mouth. OMG.

There is absolutely no current in the Red Cedar River. The sun is out with a few puffy clouds in the blue sky, it quite idyllic actually. This should be a really relaxing and heart warming time to take Harlow and Bella out in the kayaks. Pappa John has very high energy when explaining things to the girls and they appeared to have spontaneously both gone deaf as soon as he opened his mouth, only to ratchet up the anxiety for us all. "Are you listening?" Nope, they were not. I get in a kayak and am going to escort the girls as we attempt to float down on our kayaks and appreciate the beauty around us. Only to hear screech "OMG! THERE IS A SPIDER! IT'S HATCHING! IT'S BITING ME!" and then out of the corner of my eye to see Harlow at ramming speed to get the turtles to jump off their perch on the log into the water. I ask Bella is she is ok and she says she is then immediately "OMG! ANOTHER SPIDER! IT'S ON THE FRONT OF THE KAYAK!!!!!!!!!!!" Then I hear off in the distance Pappa John calling for Piper "Piper! Piper! Pipes!" About a 1/2 mile down, there is Pipes, she shimmied through the forest and down onto the shoreline and was following us! I had to bring my kayak to the shore, put Pipes in my kayak, go back to the girls and shuttle them back to the launch. My GOD.
After a month traveling around the Lake Superior Circle tour, we pull back into our home only to discover someone or some deer who live around here mugged our flower garden! Every single Hydrangea stem had been clearly whacked by a sharp cutting tool OR very very sharp deer teeth and all the blooms were gone! RUDE!
Bogart in Ludington! We pull into Ray's marine and RV, lovely place. 90 degrees out. John checks in and then is ready to park the rig. He pulls up to our site and discovers a HUGE white pick up is bogarting our cement pad. It's parked sideways right smack into our site. John has a 22 foot wide road that the driver's side drops off into the marina and the passenger side is fraught with parked cars and RV's. How he can get this bus into those ridiculous spots is beyond skilled. He is masterful. Still, the giant truck owner(s) have yet to come out of their RV to say anything!
www.michigan.org/property/young-state-parkWe were so happy to actually reserve one of the last spots in Boyne, Michigan's Young State Park for the night. But, we were quite shocked to see how many tents, bikes, trucks, cars, campers and people there were in this very small campground! It was JAM PACKED full! Of course, we had the only massive bus in the place. Just across from our site is Lake Michigan also jammed full of cigarette boats going like 125 knots in all directions. The noise those things make! DANG! Still, how Cap'n John parked this 40 foot Class A in between all the trees, tents, vehicles and people is a miracle in itself. Suprisingly, for all these people, at night one could have heard a pin drop! Off to Ludington today!
Safflower fields, pigeon river, and Mt. McKay We made it through Sault Ste Marie USA / Canada customs without getting boarded (for once!). We had such pine tree fatigue from the north shore of Lake Superior! The pups were on high alert through the whole trip and were panting the whole time in the RV. Once we arrived in the Soo Locks campground, all was right with the world. No mosquitoes, no flies. Grass for the pups. Fruits and vegetables at the store. We had a delightful dinner and just sat out on the grassy knoll watching the big ships go into and out of the locks with no hives, no poison ivy, no hand gash hemorrhaging. Life is good. www.michigan.org/property/soo-locks
Ending our Lake Superior Circle tour. Couldn't end fast enough. We both have pine tree fatigue. Pine trees, pine trees, pine trees for miles and miles.......we saw 1 bird in 6 hours. Not impressive lol
We pull into Stillwater tent and RV campground in Nipigon, Ontario, Canada. Once the rig is set up, I get the ladies out of the car to go for a nice walk. We take about ten steps before I feel my head being dive bombed by bugs "TINK!" "BINK!" "TINK!" "PING!" is the sound that is coming from the top of my head as the flies slam into my scalp! "TINK!" I am thinking maybe we just walked into a swarm or something only to realize that each step forward we are becoming enshrouded by mosquitoes and flies! It was an all out assault on the pups and I! I yell for them to "FOR GOD'S SAKE HURRY UP AND GO POTTY!" lol. They got the memo and then we zoomed back to the camper. After we get all settled in, we jump in the Jeep to go check out Sleeping Giant Provincial park www.ontarioparks.ca/park/sleepinggiant/maps to get some hiking in. We check out the first "nature trail only to see a sign and then it was so overgrown one could not find the trail. We go to the second one, same thing! This park might have been a great tourist spot at one time, but it apparently ran out of money and is essentially gone wild.
