the world's longest 20 minute drive ever

So, we decide to try out a lunch joint and a dinner joint. Sweet Lou's in downtown Coeur d'Alene because of it's affinity for our son in law Sweet Lou.  It's a short 20 minute drive. John decides we will get there by 11 to have an early light lunch / snack and have plenty of time to then to to Wolf Lodge Inn for a dinner later.  As is his way to be, he decides to take a new road just to see the scenery. Reminder: Sweet Lou's is just 20 minutes away.   Anyhow, he takes a random left turn and we find ourselves going around the shoreline of Lake Coeur d'Alene. And going. And going. And going. And going.  Our Garmin keeps saying "MAKE A U TURN!" but John is curious. "MAKE A U TURN" "MAKE A U TURN" I pushed "pause guidance" or I would have lost my damn mind. 

The road around the lake was continuous 90 degree turns for 36 miles.  Many switch backs and elevation changes. Marla got so seasick she threw up in the car. 


2 HOURS LATER we find ourselves heading due south toward Moscow where those Idaho college killings took place.  He finds a way to head back north and instead of 11 am for early snack, we are now looking at 1:45 arrival to Sweet Lous. Marla is exhausted and sick. Piper put herself into a self induced coma the whole drive. I was eating advils like they were candy.  Good grief.
