Took a tour of Boone Hall Plantation, recognized by lovers of the movie "The Notebook" and wedding venue of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. If you look closely at the pictures of the flowering plants, you can see all the butterflies that were flying all over this beautiful place. Sadly, it was a flourishing plantation that utilized slave labor over the many years of it's existence. The slave's quarters still stand on the property and the feeling one gets standing in there is not a pleasant one. Anyhow, the plantation had several owners, one was a Russian Prince who owned a race horse rescued from Ireland! This racehorse ended up siring three triple crown champions. The building with all the wooden braces is the cotton gin building. It is structurally very weak and has hurricane bracing on it at all times. www.boonehallplantation.com/ There are over eighty live oaks lining the entrance to the main house. All these live oaks are interconnected by their extensive and deep root systems. So much so, that if one live oak isn't getting enough water, the other live oaks will send some it's way through the root network!
