playing chicken on county road d22

With sustained winds of 18 mph and gusts 20-30 mph all freaking day, Cap'n John found himself in another situation (sit-chee-a-shun) that tested his mettle.  If being blown off Route 20 through Iowa wasn't bad enough for him to deal with, there was a detour in Correctionville that forced us onto County Road D22 that had 10 foot wide lanes. Our RV is just about 9 feet wide.  Meaning, there is 6 inches on either side of our RV to stay within the lane with the super fab bonus of no measurable, continuous shoulder on the road.   Also, meaning that the oncoming vehicles must abide by the same parameters, so there was 6 inches between our RV and 6 inches to the oncoming semi truck's sides.  Needless to say, our hero maintained his 55 mph speed (just because that's how he rolls) and drove 20 miles given this width constraint, all the while, being buffeted by winds and the reverb push that emanated from the tractor trailers passing us going the other way.   How he does this without screaming like a banshee, taking his hands off the wheel and rolling back into the cabin is beyond me.

If you look at the oncoming semi trucks, they are riding the white line on their left to create some potential space between us. GOOD LAWD.
