he found it!

After dousing himself with industrial / Congo strength DEET and testing out his new metal detector,  John ventured out into the area where Marla and I were ambushed by thousands of mosquitoes! He knew my wedding ring was flung in between two landmarks: The three branches of scattered yellow leaves and the caution  turtle crossing sign.  Marla and I stayed in the car with the A/C on and watched as the mosquitoes focused in on the car and then pivoted toward the live human walking into their lair.  John's whole body was covered with circling mosquitoes but due to his toxic carcinogenic layers of DEET, they did not land on him. He was practically glowing with radioactive DEET.  That didn't stop them from making a moving mosquito net around his body, moving in concert with John's movements. It was baking in the sun temperature too, that didn't help.  He stayed out between 30 and 45 minutes, methodically moving the metal detector back and forth and in circles down and the up the regions of interest.  Then suddenly! He stoops over! He pulls something out from a clump of grass! HE FOUND MY RING!  JOY TO THE WORLD! JOHN HANNON IS THE BOMB!

Afterwards, he went into the Ranger Station to let him know that the ring had been found, a very very angry camper came bounding in demanding his money back! He was shouting that the mosquitoes were ruining his camping trip and how do they expect him to live like this and he wants his money back!
