Hello everyone! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! We have been off the grid the last day or so as we were in Everglades National Forest www.nps.gov/ever/index.htm There, we enjoyed seeing hundreds of birds of all species and sadly, just a few alligators. We were at this same park about 11 years ago and the alligators were everywhere, literally, stacked up on top of each other. This time, we saw only four and were saddened to see how high the water level was there. There were also mountain lion warnings at several places. One thing we did plan for and were not disappointed about was the wall to wall mosquitoes that became blood thirsty and seemed to multiply by the second at sunset. Kathleen had on long sleeves, long pants, socks and shoes, a huge hat and a fleece jacket and was still attacked with reckless abandon. Marla was christened by a falling coconut that landed on her back from a palm tree while she was reading messages from other dogs that they left in the grass for her some time before we got there. Poor Marla! After we left the Everglades, we decided to park at Homestead, Fl for a couple more days. Here, there are dozen (hundreds maybe?) of feral cats walking around this campground and all of them are very brazen chaps who seem to be asking Marla "are you feeling lucky punk? Well, are ya?" Lastly, on the news tonight, more Zika cases have been discovered in Dade County, Florida. Yay us.
