a river of lava

Just outside of a quaint little village named "Sisters" after the pair of sister mountains one can see from the town, is a mountain pass called McKenzie pass.  We had no idea what we were about to see and it was awesome!  At the peak of McKenzie pass is the beginning of a 50 mile river of lava that was hot and melting 1500 years ago.  It is really something to see.  If you look at the trees and the underbrush, it's no wonder a lightning strike or a careless cigarette out a window can park an intense and devastating wildfire in this region.
